Back Up Your Photos | Melbourne Family Photographer

We live in a digital age. We store everything from photos, documents, letters and notes on our phones, tablets and computers. And it can be far too easy to rely on these devices too much, expecting them to never fail.

BUT they do!

So consider this your friendly reminder to BACK UP YOUR PHOTOS! ⠀⠀⠀

I recently had an email from a past client who said their computer crashed and they lost absolutely everything, including their images from our session that they hadn’t backed up. And I'm sure we all know someone whose phone died and they lost everything, or who has had a hard drive fail and they couldn't get their files back.

I don't delete my clients' images (ever!) so they can always get those files back, but I also ALWAYS recommend you back up your digital images in AT LEAST three places: ⠀⠀⠀⠀

  1. Your Computer’s Hard Drive

  2. In the Cloud

  3. On an External Device (External Hard Drive/USB/Etc)

Everyone will have their own system of backing things up so you’ll have to find what works best for you. But having a system in place for how often you back things up (maybe on the 1st of every month, or every Monday, etc) and knowing where you’re backing them up to (so you know how to retrieve them if need be!), will give you peace of mind to know your files are safe.

Devices fail, computer’s crash and things get lost ALL.THE.TIME.

Don’t lose your memories!

Even better, back up your images a fourth way by printing them!

Your photos weren't made to be looked at on a device. Hang them on your walls, put them on your desk, put them in albums and photos boxes, stick them on the fridge or pop them in your wallet. Put them anywhere you can see them on a regular basis, touch them, flip through them or hold them, and be taken right back to that moment in time.
