Outdoor Winter Photography Sessions | Melbourne Family Photographer
It’s no secret that I’m not winter’s biggest fan. Give me long, lazy and hot days and I'll be happy forever!
For the most part, I like to spend my winters hibernating by the fire watching movies, eating soup, and drinking wine.
BUT if I stayed inside all the time, I would miss out on some truly glorious winter days (even I can admit winter can be okay sometimes!). And this year, winter has been putting on a show for us…it’s been absolutely beautiful!
Although winter is the perfect time to schedule an in-home session, winter also makes a great season for an OUTDOOR SESSION (I know, who would’ve thought?!?!).
Here are a few reasons why:
Sunset is early! No need for a late bedtime for little ones. You can have your session, watch the sunset and be home in time for dinner!
The sun is lower in the sky resulting in truly beautiful light, and the sunsets are often AH-MAZING!
The colder temps are often only first thing in the morning and late in the evening. At sunset, it’s usually not all that cold so there is no need to hide under a big puffer coat (plus chunky knits, beanies and cardigans photograph beautifully!).
Little ones don’t seem to notice the temperature. Winter or summer, they don’t seem to care! They’ll just be happy to be out and about playing with you…and they often venture into the water year round too!
Any location you choose won’t be as busy as in spring or summer…sometimes you’ll even have the place to yourself!
The weather can change quickly (especially there in Melbourne) which is why before any outdoor sessions, I become part photographer / part weather girl. I watch the forecast closely and if it looks like the weather won’t be cooperating, you don't need to panic that we'll have a wet session, we’ll just reschedule. Remember I want to have the glorious winter day for your session as much as you do!
