Can siblings be a part of a newborn session?

YES!!! Yes, yes, yes!!! 100% yes!!!

I get asked this question often and my answer is always the same…YES!

Whoever is present for our session will be a part of it…I wouldn’t have it any other way!

As well as capturing baby on their own, I ALWAYS include all family members who are home during the session (this includes parents, siblings, pets, grandparents, extended family and friends). Although you may have booked a newborn session, having all family members take part (even for just a little bit) will help tell the full story of the early days with your new baby at home.

I also make sure I spend some time one-on-one with just the big siblings capturing them on their own too. The new baby may be the star of the day, but having portraits of the big kids is important too!

If you’re worried how your toddler will go cooperating during a session, please don’t be! I’ve worked with a ton of toddlers and have a few tricks up my sleeve to help things run smoothly.

I’ll never make a kid do something they don’t want to do (in any of my sessions!), and the safety of your baby is most important. If your toddler doesn’t want to sit sill and hold baby, that’s fine, I have some workarounds for this scenario to still capture the siblings together.

Just like with babies, toddlers (and sometimes bigger kids too) work to their own agenda. We’ll take as much time as necessary and adjust our session flow to meet their needs. Snack breaks and free time to play are always a given!
